Day 01: Fly from Addis Ababa to Jinka – Drive to Turmi & Hamer Tribe Visit
Take an early morning flight from Addis Ababa to Jinka, the gateway to the Omo Valley. Begin your cultural journey en route with a visit to a weekly tribal market (held on Tuesday, Thursday, and Saturday), where different ethnic groups gather after traveling long distances to trade and socialize.
Upon arrival in Turmi, explore the Hamer village, renowned for its distinctive hairstyles and rich cultural traditions. Witness the famous Bull-Jumping Ceremony, a rite of passage for young Hamer men marking their transition to adulthood. Learn about the customs, daily life, and social structure of this unique tribe. Day 02: Excursion to Ngangatom & Karo Tribes
After breakfast, drive to Kangate to visit the Ngangatom people, semi-nomadic pastoralists known for their intricate jewelry, necklaces, and traditional attire. Observe their daily lifestyle and social customs in this remote region.
In the afternoon, visit the Karo tribe, celebrated for their elaborate body paintings, scarification, and jewelry. Enjoy the stunning landscapes along the Omo River, where these communities have thrived for generations. Continue driving to Jinka for overnight stay. Overnight: Jinka
Day 03: Mursi Tribe Visit & Fly Back to Addis Ababa
Early morning, drive to Mago National Park, home to the Mursi tribe. Travel approximately 30 km on dirt roads to reach the village, aiming to observe the community before they depart for daily herding activities. The Mursi women are renowned for their traditional lip plates, an important cultural symbol. Spend ample time interacting with the tribe to understand their way of life, customs, and traditions.
Return to Jinka for lunch, then catch your flight back to Addis Ababa. In the evening, attend an acoustic music performance at a popular Ethiopian jazz venue, celebrating the rich cultural and musical heritage of the country.
Transfer to the airport for your international departure or hotel, depending on your flight schedule.
