Bahirdar—Ancient Monasteries located on Lake Tana area

Bahirdar, one of the most beautiful cities in Ethiopia, is found Northern part of the country: located near the shore of Lake Tana, the largest Lake in Ethiopia, it is the regional capital and currently serving as important political and social hub for the nation. It is where some of the oldest monasteries and islands are found: a boat excursion on the largest and shallowest Lake in Ethiopia (Lake Tana) would take you to remotest area and to some of the most beautifully painted churches and monasteries—over 25 of these monasteries housed the Ark of the Covenant 800 years ago before it was taken to where it is now located—Axum. This is where the ancient manuscripts about the history of Ethiopia is kept and visible to the tourist.
